The Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), Chennai, a leading institution in diabetes research and metabolic disorders, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Premas Life Sciences (PLS) to advance genomics and multi-omics research in India.
This partnership aims to accelerate scientific discovery and enable deeper insights into chronic diseases like diabetes through integrated omics approaches.
Through this collaboration, MDRF will leverage Illumina’s advanced sequencing technologies along with Premas Life Sciences’ expertise in implementation and support to enhance its research capabilities. The initiative is focused on enabling high-quality genomics workflows, strengthening translational research, and driving innovation in precision medicine.
A key aspect of this partnership is the collaborative development of research workflows, assays and applications, designed to address India-specific disease burdens, particularly in diabetes and related metabolic conditions. By integrating genomics with other omics, the collaboration aims to generate comprehensive datasets that can lead to more informed research outcomes.
The partnership also emphasises skilling and training initiatives, with plans to conduct workshops, hands-on training programs, and knowledge-sharing sessions for researchers, clinicians, and students. These efforts will help build capabilities in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and data interpretation. The MoU between MDRF and Premas also includes Premas supporting and facilitating strategic industry–academia partnerships for MDRF with relevant collaborators.
In addition, both institutions will work together on scientific outreach and awareness initiatives, engaging with the broader scientific and medical community to promote the adoption of genomics in research and healthcare.
