Tamil Nadu BioVision 2026 report was released by MK Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The report was prepared by Association of Biotechnology Led Enterprises (ABLE) for the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission, Government of Tamil Nadu highlighting the state’s potential to emerge as a nationally and globally competitive bieconomy hub.
Tamil Nadu accounts for over 10% ($9.8 Billion in 2025) of India’s BioIndustrial value. This reflects the State’s manufacturing maturity in biofuels, use of industrial enzymes, fermentation products, and bio-based materials.
Hosting major pharmaceutical facilities and a mature medical devices ecosystem, Tamil Nadu captures approximately 2% ($1.3 billion in 2025) of national BioPharma value. This indicates substantial room for expansion, particularly in high value biologics and advanced therapeutics.
Tamil Nadu’s BioEconomy has entered a phase of accelerated expansion, growing from $7.7 billion in 2023 to an estimated $12.4 billion by the end of 2025—representing approximately 61% growth over this period and significantly outpacing the national expansion rate. This trajectory positions Tamil Nadu as one of India’s fastest-growing BioEconomy ecosystems, with the State now contributing approximately 6.4% of India’s estimated $195 billion BioEconomy (2025), up from 5.1% in 2023.
If current expansion patterns are sustained, Tamil Nadu could plausibly approach a $25–30 billion BioEconomy by 2030, potentially contributing 8–10% of India’s projected national value.
“With a BioEconomy that has grown to an estimated $12.4 billion by 2025, the State has already begun integrating biological innovation across manufacturing systems, healthcare ecosystems, and knowledge-driven services. The question before us is therefore not whether the BioEconomy will shape Tamil Nadu’s future, but how decisively we can harness it to advance inclusive and future-ready development”, said Dr J. Jeyaranjan, Executive Vice-Chairman, State Planning Commission, Tamil Nadu
