The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Government of India enterprise focused on promoting indigenous technologies, has entered into a strategic partnership with SS Medical Systems India (SSMED) to accelerate the nationwide deployment of advanced microwave-based infection control technology across government healthcare facilities in India.
The technology has been developed by the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER), an autonomous R&D institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India.
Under the partnership, NRDC will promote and commercialise SS Medical’s mobile microwave-based infection control systems through its extensive pan-India network. The technology is designed to sterilise infectious biomedical waste and help healthcare facilities strengthen infection management systems in an environmentally sustainable manner.
The technology is expected to significantly reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), lower antimicrobial resistance risks, improve hospital bed availability through better infection management, and ultimately strengthen healthcare infrastructure across public health institutions.
NRDC, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India, plays a key role in bridging the gap between research institutions and industry by supporting technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization initiatives.
The partnership marks an important step toward strengthening India’s healthcare innovation ecosystem and advancing the country’s goal of building a self-reliant and resilient public health system.
